Tips To Drive Visitors To Your Website

All bloggers and website creators, no matter how personally fulfilling their chunk of cyberspace is to them, would be excited to know their website has regular visitors. And why not? It means your website has relevance in the world. Maybe its content has helped or inspired someone in some way. Lack of readers and visitors does not mean your blog or website is not good enough (all content, no matter how small or personal, is worth reading!) , it simply means that out of litterally billions of webpages that exist in the world, yours may be lost in the endless noise of cyberspace.

Though there is no actual "snap your fingers get 1,000 hits a day" solution, these tips will still really help your website get exposure and gain readers!

html meta tags

A meta tag is a way for you to have some control over how your website shows up in search engines such as google. Though google (and others) do no soley rely on meta tags to filter search results, it can help your webpages show up in more search queries more often.

In some instinces, your webpage may even be invisible to search engines unless you type in your exact web address "mywebsite.com" in the search bar! Meta tags can help in multiple ways such as:

"keywords" that help describe the content in your site. such as 'graphics, blog, tv shows, books'...so that even though not every page may include those words, they can still be found by people searching for those subjects.

"description" that will allow you to write a short blip about your site, so when it comes up in google, for example, it may say "a website about how to take care of cats and custom cat trees for sale"

and lets say your website is about cool tv shows. unless every webpage has the word "tv show" included, when someone types in the search "tv show", your site could be omitted and not found by the potential reader who would probably enjoy all your kick ass tv show synopsiss, because your page did not include that exact phrase.

the meta tags code

<head>

<title>MY WEBSITE:...about some stuff and things</title>

<META name="description" content="a short description about the content in my site">

<META name="keywords" content="some keywords that describe what my site is about">

</head>
as you can see this goes between your <head> </head> tags, which are at the very top of your webpage. by including the meta tags in all your main navigation pages, it can really help your website be found by potental readers.

search engine prowess

meta tags, as shown above, are the most basic way to make sure your webiste can be found on search engines like google. because really, when you think about it, how much web surfing do you do just by typing searches in google? probably a hell of a lot. so it makes sense that one of your first priorities should be making sure your website can be found in the most ways possible. Here are some more proactive tips on that subject:

submit your site to the open directory project

include a link to your website on your frequented web activity. Facebook, Twitter, email, web formus you post to...all of these are seen by other web surfers and can also be found in search engines. you would be surpised how much traffic you can drive to your site just by including a link in your frequented web activity. A lot of readers find websites thru the "i clicked on a link then a link then another link" from trolling web forums and social networking!
